A 46-year-old businessman has been arrested for allegedly using a fake registration number plate on his scooter, leading to multiple traffic challans being wrongly issued against another vehicle owner.
The accused, Arif Khan, a resident of Ahmed Nagar in Masab Tank, was apprehended by Langar Houz police following inputs from the Hyderabad Traffic Police.
The case came to light after Shaik Imran, the owner of a Honda Activa bearing registration number TS 13 EX 3358, approached the traffic police complaining that several traffic challans were being generated against his vehicle despite him not committing any violations.
Upon verification, officials found that the accused had allegedly fitted his Honda Activa, originally registered as TS 13 FA 0954, with a fake number plate displaying TS 13 EX 3358.
Police said this was done with the intention of misleading enforcement authorities and shifting liability for traffic violations.
As a result of the misuse, 12 traffic challans were wrongly issued against the complainant’s vehicle.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police warned that the use of fake or tampered number plates is a serious and punishable offence. Officials said advanced surveillance systems, including CCTV cameras and automatic number plate recognition technology, are being used to detect such violations and track vehicle movements.
