Eric Dane, Grey’s Anatomy actor, dies at 53 after prolonged battle with ALS

New Delhi:

Hollywood is in mourning after Eric Dane passed away. He was best known for playing Dr Mark “McSteamy” Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy and later received renewed acclaim for his role in HBO’s Euphoria. Dane died on February 19 after battling Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). He was 53.

The news of his death was confirmed by his family. In their statement, carried by People, the family said, “With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” reads a statement from Dane’s family. “He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.”

“Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight. He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time,” the note further read.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, and their two daughters, Billie and Georgia.

Eric Dane’s filmography reflected a mix of mainstream popularity and steady television success. He claim to global fame in 2006 with Grey’s Anatomy, where his role as Mark Sloan quickly grew from a guest appearance into a full-time character due to strong fan response. He remained on the show until 2012, when his character was written out. Over the years, he built a diverse body of work across television and film, with notable credits including Euphoria, The Last Ship, and films like Burlesque, Valentine’s Day, and Marley & Me.
