PSMO College, Tirurangadi, turned into a rare confluence of public life and alma mater on Tuesday as people’s representatives from Malappuram and Kozhikode districts came together under one roof. What made the gathering special was that all the 57 participants were former students of the college.

Organised by the alumni association of the college, the event celebrated the institution’s enduring legacy in public service. The association claimed that no other college in the State could boast of having such a large number of its former students currently serving as people’s representatives.

“It will be the first time that 57 former students of a campus have become people’s representatives. It is a matter of pride for both the college and its alumni,” said Mujeeb Tanalur, programme coordinator.

Among them were four members of the Malappuram district panchayat, presidents of Makkaraparamba, Vengara, Kannamangalam, Nannambra, Tanalur, Kalpakanchery, Peruvallur and Edarikode grama panchayats, presidents of Tirurangadi and Vengara block panchayats, vice-presidents of Kondotty and Mankada block panchayats, and vice-chairpersons of Kottakkal and Prappanangadi municipalities.

The college felicitated all the 57 representatives, honouring their contributions to public life. As students, many of them had been active on the campus under various political banners. Yet, when they returned to their alma mater, they set aside party lines, coming together in a rare show of camaraderie that rose above political affiliations.

College management committee chairperson M.K. Bava inaugurated the gathering. Alumni association president C.P. Mustafa presided. K.T. Jaleel, MLA, delivered the keynote address. Mr. Jaleel recalled his student days at PSMO College.

Additional Divisional Magistrate K. Devaki presented mementoes. Mr. Tanalur welcomed the gathering.
