The Indo-US trade agreement was an onslaught on the sovereignty of India, criticised Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leader Prakash Karat.

The Trump regime imposed its imperialist and corporate interests on India through the agreement, said Mr. Karat at a seminar on impacts of India-US trade relations, organised by EMS research centre here on Thursday (February 19, 2026).

“The agreement will lead to the flooding of US products into India. It will also displace the local products from the market,” he said. CPI(M) district secretary and centre chairperson S. Satish presided.

Party leaders C.M. Dinesh Mani, N. Anilkumar, and CITU leader Deepa K. Rajan were among those who attended.
