Within hours of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) joining the ruling DMK-led alliance on Thursday (February 19, 2026), in the presence of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to face the upcoming Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu, the State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reacted sharply to the political development saying “Captain’s [Vijayakant] soul will not forgive [them].”

Sharing a photograph of DMDK founder and late actor Vijayakant on its official social media handle, the BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit said: “Throughout his public life, Vijayakant worked to oppose the DMK, an evil force. Therefore, the DMK gave only hardships and humiliation to him and his party. The Captain’s soul will never forgive that his party has today joined hands with the anti-people DMK.”

அத்தகைய மக்கள் விரோத திமுகவுடன் இன்று… pic.twitter.com/VgGbfLNZJW

The party also shared an old video of Vijayakant opposing the DMK-Congress alliance and said, “Till his last breath, he was opposed to the anti-Tamil DMK-Congress.”

The party’s chief spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy said, “It is sad that Vijayakant’s legacy has been let down by his own family. Vijayakant was a very big supporter of the BJP, right from the days he aligned with the NDA [during 2014 Lok Sabha polls]. However, DMDK joining the DMK-led alliance will not affect the NDA in any manner.”
