The BJP State executive, which is being held in Bengaluru on Thursday, will be attended by over 1,250 delegates including legislators and MPs.

Briefing presspersons after visiting Bengaluru Palace Grounds where the executive is being held to review the preparations, BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra said the executive would deliberate on strategies to be adopted by the party to face the forthcoming elections to urban and rural local bodies, including the Greater Bengaluru Authority.

Referring to the possibility of elections to the GBA, zilla, taluk and gram panchayats being held in the next six months, along with those to fill several seats in the Legislative Council and byelections to the Assembly, Mr. Vijayendra remarked that the State was heading towards an election phase. The State executive would discuss the ways and means of galvanising the party organisation.

The executive which is being inaugurated by Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat will be attended by leaders including former Chief Ministers B.S. Yediyurappa, D.V. Sadananda Gowda, Jagadish Shettar, and Basavaraj Bommai besides Union Ministers Pralhad Joshi, V. Somanna, and Shobha Karandlaje, he said.

The executive would adopt various resolutions to make known its stand on some of the issues, he said.

Accusing the Congress government of failure on all fronts, Mr. Vijayendra alleged that the government’s failure in maintaining Bengaluru’s infrastructure was strikingly visible.

Veteran BJP leader and former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa will be honoured at the party State executive committee meeting in Bengaluru on Thursday in recognition of his milestone of completing five decades of public life.

BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra recalled his father’s political journey that began from Shikaripur of Shivamogga district. Mr. Yediyurappa shifted from Mandya district to Shikaripur where he associated himself with the then Jan Sangh and also began his political life as member of the Shikaripur municipality and later as its president, besides being the taluk president of the Jan Sangh.

Mr. Vijayendra said Mr. Yediyurappa, 82, had taken the BJP organisation, which was once confined to urban areas, to villages through his hard work. Mr. Yediyurappa is credited with bringing the BJP to power for the first time in a South Indian State.
