The Electronic City police have arrested three persons for allegedly kidnapping a spa owner for ransom and rescued the victim on Wednesday.

According to police, a complaint was lodged on February 15 by a manager of a spa located in Akshayanagar, Begur. In his complaint, he stated that after closing the spa for the day, he and the spa owner were heading home on a two-wheeler. A group of unidentified persons intercepted them in a car near Bettadasanapura. The accused allegedly abused the duo, assaulted the complainant with deadly weapons, and forcibly abducted the spa owner by taking him away in their vehicle. The kidnappers later contacted the complainant and demanded ₹2 lakh as ransom, threatening to kill the victim if the amount was not paid.

Acting on credible information, police on the evening of February 17 traced the accused and rescued the victim from a deserted area on S. Bingipura Road.

During interrogation, police found that one of the accused was employed at an apartment complex in Gottigere and had allegedly misappropriated apartment funds, which he lost in online gaming. In an attempt to repay the amount, he assumed that the spa owner had sufficient money and conspired with his associates to kidnap him and demand ransom. The accused have allegedly confessed to the crime.

Police seized the car used in the offence, weapons, three mobile phones and ₹9,700 in cash from their possession.
