K.R. Puram BJP MLA and accused number five in the Bikla Shiva murder case, Byrathi Basavaraj, was on Sunday (February 15, 2026) remanded into seven days of CID custody after doctors at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research certified that he was medically fit.

Basavaraj was arrested by CID officials at the Bengaluru airport arrival terminal soon after he landed from Ahmedabad, following the rejection of his bail plea by the Supreme Court on Thursday (February 12, 2026).

During the mandatory medical examination at Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital after his arrest, doctors sought a cardiology opinion from Jayadeva Hospital after the MLA raised concerns about a cardiac condition.

On Friday (February 13, 2026), the court had declined the CID’s request for immediate custody and directed that Basavaraj be admitted to Jayadeva Hospital under police security for a detailed cardiac evaluation.

After conducting a comprehensive examination, doctors at Jayadeva confirmed that he was stable and did not require hospitalization. He was discharged on Sunday (February 15, 2026) after a full check-up.

Subsequently, Basavaraj was produced before the 42nd ACJM magistrate at the judge’s residence, where the court granted the CID seven days’ custody for further investigation.

Meanwhile, Karnataka BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra visited Basavaraj’s residence in K.R. Puram to express solidarity.

Addressing party workers and supporters, Mr. Vijayendra said the BJP remained indebted to Basavaraj for his support and recalled his role in forming a BJP Government in 2019. He urged party members and supporters not to panic over the arrest and to have faith in the judicial process. The CID is continuing its investigation into the murder case.
