The Mannanthala police have arrested two youths for allegedly stealing a mobile phone and fraudulently transferring money from the victim’s bank account using a payment app.

The police have identified the accused as Harikrishnan, 28, of West Kallada in Kollam, Sandeep, 29, of Vadaserikkara in Pathanamthitta.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 5.30 p.m. on February 2 at Kudappanakunnu. The accused allegedly stole the mobile phone of Santhosh, 53, a native of Kudappanakunnu.

After gaining possession of the phone, the accused reportedly misused the payment app installed on the device to transfer ₹31,762 from the victim’s linked bank account.

While Harikrishnan was apprehended from the premises of Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital, Sandeep was taken into custody from Vadaserikkara.
