Prison Department stall wins award at Numaish

The Prison Department stall at the 85th All India Industrial Exhibition, popularly known as Numaish, held at the Exhibition Grounds in Nampally, has been adjudged the Best Stall in the State Government Stalls category, marking the fifth time the department has received the honour.

The award was presented to Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, Telangana, Soumya Mishra, by the Minister for Prohibition and Excise, Tourism and Culture, Jupally Krishna Rao in the presence of office-bearers of the Exhibition Society. Among those present were R. Sukesh Reddy, vice president; B. N. Rajeshwar, secretary; and N. Sanjeev Kumar, treasurer.

The stall, designed to resemble a prison structure, stood out for its distinctive appearance and drew considerable public attention. Intricately crafted models of the Charminar made by inmates emerged as a major attraction. For the first time, natural honey harvested and packed by prisoners was displayed. A range of products tailored for women recorded strong sales, while waste-to-wealth items also received appreciation from visitors.

Officials said the stall registered total sales of ₹67,31,342 during the exhibition, indicating strong public demand for products manufactured by inmates as part of prison rehabilitation initiatives.
