The Bengaluru City Police have launched a special city-wide drive titled ‘Operation Suraksha’ to curb illegal activities and anti-social behaviour at night.

According to the police, anti-social elements often gather in public places at night and indulge in unlawful activities, including the consumption and sale of narcotic substances. To bring such activities under control and ensure public safety, a joint special operation is being carried out by local police stations along with the Central Crime Branch (CCB).

Under Operation Suraksha, officers and staff of the CCB and local police stations are conducting nightly patrols on a shift basis in sensitive areas of the city. During these patrols, police are identifying persons disturbing public peace, provoking others, possessing deadly weapons, and habitual rowdy-sheeters involved in immoral and illegal activities. Cases are being registered daily under the Karnataka Police Act, 1972, and other relevant laws.

Since December 2025, police have registered 151 cases related to the sale and consumption of narcotic substances during night-time operations across various police stations. In addition, 1,280 cases have been registered under the Karnataka Police Act against individuals disturbing public peace. Such persons have been counselled and warned against repeating the offences.

During the operation, police also executed 39 warrants issued by courts against absconding accused. One case was registered under the Arms Act, while eight rowdy-sheeters were booked.

Police claimed that since the commencement of Operation Suraksha, incidents of snatching of chains and mobile phones, and similar crimes have come down. As part of the drive, 215 houses of rowdy elements were searched.

The police added that the special operation has received positive feedback and appreciation from people, particularly from women, senior citizens, and families.
