The Madikeri City Municipal Council (CMC) has strictly prohibited open defecation and urination in public places.

According to a statement, all the 23 wards under the Madikeri CMC limits had followed the prescribed Open Defecation Free (ODF) protocol and norms. People were informed that the area has been declared compliant with ODF protocol and ODF plus standards.

Penalty for violation

While prohibiting open defecation and urination in public places, the Madikeri CMC said a fine of ₹500 will be imposed for open urination, ₹1,000 for open defecation, and ₹2,000 for discharging human waste from residential or commercial premises into public drains, in addition to legal action.

The City Municipal Commissioner of Madikeri urged owners of residential and commercial buildings to make use of the municipal suction machine facility for cleaning septic tanks.
