Five people were arrested by Kukatpally police in separate cases involving theft of copper cables, a two-wheeler and mobile phones, with recoveries valued at several lakh rupees.

In the first case, four security guards were arrested for stealing 500 kilograms of copper armoured cables worth approximately ₹6 lakh from a construction site in the Kukatpally area.

The accused were identified as Lakhindra Boruah (26), Anupam Gogoi (26), Neetu Das (25) and Nabajyoti Das, all natives of Assam who had come to Hyderabad in search of security jobs. Police said the stolen copper cables, weighing around 500 kilograms, were recovered from their possession.

Investigations revealed that the accused had developed habits of alcohol consumption and smoking and resorted to thefts to meet their lifestyle expenses.

The theft came to light after a complaint was lodged on February 4 by Ulli Kunal, a site engineer at Makuta Taranga near IDL Lake, who reported that seven bundles of copper cables had been stolen during the night.

On February 5, police noticed the accused loitering suspiciously and stopped them for questioning. During interrogation, it emerged that all four were employed as security personnel at the Makuta Tripura site. They also confessed to committing the theft.
