The Inquiry Committee of the National Commission for Women (NCW) visited Mulugu district in Telangana on Friday (February 6, 2026) to review on the ground the alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl during the recent Sammakka Saralamma Jatara in Medaram.

The committee, led by NCW Member Delina Khongdup, met the District Collector, T.S. Diwakara and the Superintendent of Police, Sudhir Ramnath Kekan, to assess the situation and examine the action taken so far. The Commission had taken cognisance of media reports on February 4 regarding the incident and subsequently deputed a team to conduct a field visit.

During the visit, the committee also inspected the spot where the alleged assault took place in order to gain first-hand clarity and comprehensively assess the circumstances surrounding the case.

In a statement, the NCW said that the Telangana Police would submit a detailed report along with corroborative evidence at the earliest. The Committee also held a detailed interaction with the Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana, during which the sexual assault in Mulugu, the status of pending complaints, NCW suo motu notices and NRI-related issues prevalent in the State were discussed.
