Banakal Police in Mudigere taluk of Chikkamagaluru district in Karnataka have registered a case against a priest of a temple on the charges of raping a woman and assuring her of clearing flaws in her horoscope.

The police booked the case on February 2 based on a complaint filed by a woman. According to the complainant, she approached Krishna Rao, the priest, to seek his guidance on her marriage prospects.

The accused, after going through the horoscope, allegedly told her that it had some flaws (doshas), and she needed to undergo some rituals to get rid of them. Citing the rituals, the accused allegedly raped her several times from November 2025.

The police booked the case under sections of the BNS and the SC-ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
