Communist Party of India (CPI) veteran R. Nallakannu has been hospitalised at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) in Chennai. His condition is said to be stable at present.

Mr. Nallakannu, who turned 101 in December 2025, was admitted on Sunday (February 1, 2026) evening after a couple of bouts of vomiting. A senior hospital official said the admission was done as a measure of abundant precaution, taking into consideration his age. He is undergoing evaluations of his cardiac, nephrological, and respiratory systems at the hospital, and is doing fine currently, the official said.
