The DMK will not be afraid of or worry about the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and actor Vijay, said Tourism Minister R. Rajendran in Salem on Sunday.

The Minister told the media that the DMK launched the Oraniyil Tamil Nadu membership drive to unite the people of Tamil Nadu against the BJP-led Union government. The second phase of the drive will begin on Monday.

He added that the Union government was trying to destroy the history and culture of Tamil, impose Hindi, deny funds for education and various schemes, reduce the Parliamentary constituencies of Tamil Nadu, and implement Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

Responding to the questions on actor Vijay’s charges against the DMK government, the Minister said the DMK functioned with dignity, following the path of Periyar, Anna, Karunanidhi, and M.K. Stalin. So there was no need to answer actor Vijay. The DMK fulfilled 80% of its election promises and the Chief Minister implemented many welfare schemes that were not mentioned in the election manifesto. Similarly, the Chief Minister was walking in the victory path with the alliance parties. So the DMK would not be afraid or worry about the speech of Mr. Vijay, Mr. Rajendran added.

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin would visit Salem on Monday and distribute identity cards for women self-help group members on Tuesday, through which one lakh people will benefit. The Deputy Chief Minister would also take part in a road show, the Minister said.
