Two construction workers lost their lives after falling from an under-construction building on Balagere Road, within the limits of Varthur police station, on Wednesday evening.

The deceased have been identified as Sathya Kumar, lift operator, and Muttappa, electrician/lift mechanic, both daily-wage labourers.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 5 p.m. while the workers were installing a lift in the building, which is still under construction. A material supply lift reportedly collapsed, causing both men to fall, leading to fatal injuries on the spot.

The Varthur police conducted a preliminary inspection. The bodies were shifted to the Vydehi Hospital mortuary.

On Thursday, Sathya Kumar’s wife lodged a complaint alleging gross negligence on the part of the contractor, identified as Sudeer, and the site engineer. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case of death due to negligence under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
