Lok Sabha shares Economic Survey with MPs on WhatsApp

Moments before Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabled the Economic Survey for 2025-26, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday (January 29, 2026) announced that this year, members would receive a soft copy of the document on WhatsApp as well, apart from it being uploaded on the members’ portal.

Mr. Birla also sought suggestions from members on introducing new innovations to conduct the proceedings more effectively.

“We have carried out some changes and you will see some of them in coming days,” Mr. Birla said, adding, “I would request you to give us suggestions for new innovations. We will try all the tools that can enhance the productivity of the honourable members.”

Earlier, during the Question Hour, Mr. Birla urged members not to keep talking to each other during the proceedings of the House and said they should step out of the chamber if they wanted prolonged discussions among themselves.

“Such behaviour is against the dignity of the House, and those who wish to indulge in prolonged discussions can go out of the Lok Sabha chamber,” he said, adding that from now onwards he would name members who disturb the proceedings.
