Madikeri City Municipal Council (CMC) Commissioner H.R. Ramesh, on January 27, warned that stray cattle found roaming freely on the roads will be shifted to a gaushala or cattle shelter.

Stray cattle moving freely on major roads and in public places within the limits of Madikeri CMC were causing inconvenience to the motorists and the general public, a statement said.

“This poses a risk of road accidents, loss of life and damage to property. Therefore, the owners or caretakers of such cattle have been instructed to immediately stop leaving their cattle on the roads and in public places,” said the statement.

February 6 deadline

The CMC Commissioner has set February 6 as the deadline for cattle owners to voluntarily restrain and control their cattle.

“After this deadline, if any stray cattle are found roaming freely on the roads, the CMC will shift them to a gaushala or cattle shelter without issuing any prior notice,” Mr. Ramesh said.
