A five-year-old girl was killed on Monday evening after a kite string — banned Chinese manja — became entangled around her neck while she was riding on a motorcycle with her family in the KPHB.
According to police, the child, a resident of Gokul Plots, had accompanied her family to Khazipally village earlier in the day. While returning home at around 5 p.m., the family was travelling on a two-wheeler along Vivekananda Nagar Main Road when the incident occurred near pillar number 781.
The girl, who was seated at the front of the motorcycle, suddenly began screaming in pain, prompting her father to immediately stop the vehicle. He then noticed profuse bleeding from her neck. On closer examination, the family realised that a manja had become tightly wrapped around the child’s neck, causing deep injuries.
The parents quickly removed the thread and rushed the girl to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts by doctors to save her, she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
The Kukatpally police registered a case and initiated a probe.
