Three persons were killed after a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus and a van collided at Mel Manmalai village near Chengam town in Tiruvannamalai on Saturday.

Police said the deceased were identified as P. Mani (27), B. Govindaraj (30) and M. Arumugam (45).They belong to Tiruvannamalai. Initial inquiry revealed that the flower vendor Arumugam brought three tonnes of flowers from a wholesale market in Bengaluru to sell them in Tiruvannamalai town. He hired a van for the purpose. Along with Arumugam and Govindaraj, Mani, was driving the vehicle on Chengam Main Road when he lost control of the vehicle after he tried to overtake a government bus.

Police said the van driver Mani failed to notice a bus coming in the opposite direction on the stretch, and hit the bus, which was proceeding towards Tiruvannamalai town with around 30 commuters.

From the impact, Mani died on the spot. The incident happened around 9.45 a.m. Passersby and other motorists rescued the badly injured duo in the van, who later succumbed to injuries at Government Medical College Hospital in Tiruvannamalai town.
