A national-level mathematics competition for school students was held at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) in Vellore on Saturday.

According to a press release, the event saw enthusiastic participation from around 3,400 students, representing 65 government and private schools from Vellore, Coimbatore, Salem, Puducherry, and Tirupati (A.P.).

The programme was presided over by Sankar Viswanathan, vice-president, VIT. He highlighted the importance of nurturing mathematical aptitude at a young age. The competition was held in four categories — Model Making, Poster Presentation, Quiz, and Talent Showcase. After rigorous evaluation, 92 students were declared winners and presented with cash prizes and certificates. In the overall school championship, Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Walajapet, and Springdays CBSE School, Vellore, have emerged as top performers in Tamil and English-medium categories.

On the occasion, former ISRO scientist S. Arulmozhi, the chief guest, and Anita, Deputy Project Director at the U.R. Rao Satellite Centre (Bengaluru), were present, the release stated.
