The State government on Friday launched an automated land conversion system to expedite land approvals for renewable energy (RE) projects. This is expected to improve the ease of doing business in the State.
The software, developed by the Revenue Department, allows for automatic land conversion under the deemed conversion provision, with a 30-day deadline, and exempts renewable energy projects from the prior land conversion requirement.
The system was first piloted in Chickballapur district. Following the pilot’s success, it has now been rolled out across the State, Minister for Revenue Krishna Byre Gowda, who inaugurated the project, said.
Energy Minister K.J. George said that he had requested the Chief Minister to address the challenges in acquiring land for renewable energy projects. “Under the amended rules, renewable energy projects are exempt from land conversion requirements. District Commissioners are required to approve online applications within 30 days. If they fail to do so, conversion will be deemed automatically granted. Applications can only be rejected within the period if documents are incomplete or invalid, with reasons recorded,” Mr. George said.
