With a view to providing electric vehicle (EV) users a quick charging facility, the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) Limited has opened the first public EV fast-charging unit in Mandya district in Karnataka at its circle office in Mandya.

The new facility was inaugurated by CESC Chairperson and MLA Ramesh Bandisidde Gowda on January 22 in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Kumar and CESC Managing Director Munigopal Raju.

Speaking after the inauguration, Ramesh Bandisidde Gowda said the use of electric vehicles has been increasing in recent times. “EVs are extremely helpful in preventing air pollution and reducing dependence on imported fuel. Therefore, through CESC, we are encouraging the use of electric vehicles and promoting green energy,” he said.

He said the EV fast-charging centre has been started at CESC’s Mandya Circle office premises with the aim of promoting the use of electric vehicles, and encouraging private EV charging centres.

At the EV fast-charging unit started at CESC’s Mandya Circle Office premises, a total of three four-wheelers can be charged simultaneously. The centre currently has a 30 kW DC charger and 7.4 kW AC charger. In the future, it can be upgraded into a 240 kW super fast-charging centre.

People can charge their vehicles at the EV fast-charging centre using the ‘Instacharge’ app. The charging equipment has been supplied and installed by Epic Power, according to CESC.

The inauguration of Mandya’s first public EV fast-charging unit on January 22 follows the inauguration of a similar EV fast-charging hub at the CESC head office in Mysuru a few days ago.

“The first public EV fast-charging unit has been opened in Mandya city for public use, which will be beneficial to EV users. In the coming days, more EV fast-charging centres will be established at other locations to encourage the use of electric vehicles,” said Munigopal Raju.

CESC Technical Director D.J. Divakar, Chief Engineer Mrutyunjaya, along with other corporation officers and staff, were present.
