The inquiry into the case involving videos purportedly showing Director-General of Police (DGP) K. Ramachandra Rao misbehaving with multiple women in his office, is likely to be handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The State government suspended Mr. Rao on Monday pending inquiry, after the videos in question went viral.
The move comes amid a virulent attack from the Opposition on the scandals plaguing the Home Department, on the eve of the special legislature session scheduled to begin from Thursday.
To figure in session
As the State government prepares for a two-day special discussion on the recently promulgated Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2026, replacing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005, targeting the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the Opposition plans to put the government on the mat on a host of issues including issues in the Home Department.
Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly R. Ashok even alleged that Mr. Rao was closely associated with Home Minister G. Parameshwara and this raised suspicions that he was being protected, despite repeated scandals the officers found himself in.
Talking tough
This prompted the Home Minister to talk tough on Tuesday claiming the State government could even dismiss Mr. Rao from service based on the inquiry report and claimed he did not meet him, distancing himself from the officer.
Sources said that the case will likely be handed over to the CID to preempt Opposition attacks against the government on this issue.
