The Kamatipura police on Monday (January 19) arrested 11 persons in connection with a communal incident at Puranapool Chilla, in which an unlawful assembly allegedly raised provocative slogans and damaged property, disturbing public tranquillity and communal harmony.

The arrested persons were identified as Choukat Shanker alias Bolu, 19, Choukat Abhishek, 24, Kaliwale Kushal Singh alias Kushal, 19, Andhumalla Varun alias Boby, 21, Andhumalla Arun alias Minnu, 20, Choukat Raman alias Nanu, 22, Kaliwala Bhumesh, 22, Esliwala Ganesh, 19, Jaggila Sandeep, 31, Damdi Vishal Singh, 22, and Kali Manju, 45, all residents of Puranapool and its surrounding localities.

Police said the incident was triggered on January 15 at around 11.30 p.m. when one of the accused allegedly entered the Puranapool Darwaza Mysamma Temple and partially damaged a flex banner and an idol in the verandah. Following this, a group formed an unlawful assembly and caused damage at the Chilla. A case was registered based on a complaint and investigation was taken up.

During the investigation, police analysed CCTV footage and technical evidence, which led to the identification of the accused involved in the incident. All 11 were arrested on January 19, produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody. Efforts are on to trace and arrest the remaining absconding accused.

On the instructions of Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar, police intensified patrolling and conducted flag marches in the Kamatipura and Bahadurpura areas. Pickets have also been deployed in sensitive localities as part of confidence-building measures.
