A 37-year-old woman and her eight-year-old son were killed on the spot after being knocked down by a private college bus on Viveknagar Main Road on January 19 morning.

The deceased have been identified as Sangeetha and her son Parth, residents of Ejipura.

The incident occurred around 7.15 a.m. when Sangeetha was crossing the busy road with her son on their way to Army Public School. Sangeetha was employed at the same school while Parth was a student there.

According to the police, a private college bus, which was allegedly being driven at high speed, knocked down the duo, killing them on the spot.

The bus driver abandoned the vehicle at the spot, and fled soon after the incident. The Ashok Nagar Traffic Police seized the bus and are looking for the driver.

The bodies were shifted to Bowring Hospital for post-mortem. A case of hit-and-run, death due to negligence, and rash and negligent driving has been booked against the driver.
