Housing, Waqf and Minority Welfare Minister B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan met AICC general secretary and Karnataka in charge Randeep Singh Surjewala in Kaithal, Haryana, and invited him to participate in the large-scale housing allotment programme scheduled in Hubballi on January 24.

Congress leader Deepak Chinchore was present during the meeting.

The event, to be attended by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, will see the Karnataka Slum Development Board allot 42,345 houses to poor families. Around 2 lakh people are expected to participate in the State-level programme to be held on Mantur Road.

This is the second phase of allotment. In the first phase, 36,789 houses were already handed over to beneficiaries. A third phase is planned for April–May, when another 30,000 units are expected to be distributed.

In all, the State is constructing 1,80,253 houses, with the government providing ₹4 lakh per unit, in addition to Central and State subsidies. Beneficiaries will pay ₹1 lakh for ownership. As many as 20,363 slum dwellers will receive a symbolic record of rights during the event through videoconference.
