Hyderabad on Saturday hosted a Indo-US healthcare meet that brought together the leadership of the American Medical Association, led by its President Dr Bobby Mukkamala, for an interaction with leading Indian physician leaders.
The evening was held in honour of Dr Bobby Mukkamala, the first Asian-American and the first person of Indian origin to head the 180-year-old American Medical Association. In his address, he spoke about the importance of global collaboration in healthcare and the value of learning from different health systems, including those in India. President of Indian Medical Association (IMA) Dr Dilip Bhanushali said that the IMA had adopted 2000 villages throughout the country as part of its outreach programme. Dr Giridhar J Gyani, Director General of Association of Healthcare Providers India (AHPI) was the first to conduct a study showing that while India had 50,000 MBBS seats, there were only 18,000 postgraduate seats, a disparity that was formally brought to the government’s notice. Apollo Hospitals Joint Managing Director Dr Sangita Reddy, LV Prasad Eye Institute Founder-Chair Dr Gullapalli Nageshwar Rao and Continental Hospitals Founder and Chairman Dr Guru N Reddy also spoke.
