The Mangaluru police have arrested three persons in connection with the assault of Jharkhand-based migrant labourer, who they thought was a Bangladeshi national.

The police gave names of the arrested persons as Rathish Das, 32; Dhanush, 24; and Sagar, 24, all from Kuloor in Mangaluru. Search is on for Mohan, who was accused of involvement in the attack.

On January 11 morning, four persons, said to be associated with a right wing organisation, waylaid Diljan Ansari at a place in Kavoor police station limits. Accusing Ansari of being a Bangladeshi, the four persons abused him and sought his identity documents. When Ansari insisted that he was an Indian, the group used objects carried by Ansari to assault him on his head.

A local woman rushed to the help of Ansari, who was found bleeding heavily, and admitted him for treatment at the local healthcare centre. Local leaders called the police and informed about the incident.

The Kavoor police registered a complaint against the accused for offences under Sections 126(2), 109, 352, 351(3),353, 118(1) r/w 3(5) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

A team comprising of Kavoor Police Inspector Raghavenra M. Byndoor and Police Sub Inspector Mallikarjun Biradar traced the three accused persons and arrested them.
