Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Sunday (January 11, 2026) remembered the late Dishom Guru Shibu Soren on his 82nd birth anniversary in an emotional message on social media platform X.

Later, Mr. Soren along with his wife, MLA Kalpana Soren, visited “Cheshire Home” in Ranchi and spent time with children with disabilities.

“For me, this is not merely the birthday of a great leader, but the memory of that father who taught me the art of living life, taught me to struggle, and most importantly, taught me to remain firm on my dignity, values, and truth without ever bowing down,” Mr. Soren wrote in the post on Sunday.

He further said, “Baba never bowed his head before injustice throughout his entire life. He sacrificed everything for the protection of water, forests, land, and tribal identity. I have seen him tired many times, but never broken. That unbreakable willpower and determination of his lives is within me even today.”

Mr. Soren asserted, “As a son, I learned simplicity from him, learned the courage to never turn my back on difficulties, and learned to always regard power as a means of public service. Baba, I will keep walking on the path you showed, on the ideals you gave, for my entire life, no matter how many challenges may come. Jai Jharkhand! Jai Dishom Guru! May your memory remain immortal forever.”

In the memory of his father, he also inaugurated the Master Sobren Manjhi District Library at the campus of Ram Rudra Chief Minister Utkrisht Vidyalaya in Bokaro district.

Along with it, he also launched round the clock Guruji Night Study Hall, centered on anthropology, particularly the study of tribal life at the global level.

In the first phase, the library will operate daily until 8 p.m. at night.

“I am confident that it will play an important role in fostering an interest in reading among students, increasing curiosity towards research-oriented knowledge, and building personality,” Mr. Soren said while addressing the people.

Remembering his father who passed away last year on August 4, Mr. Soren said that though he is not present but his contribution, sacrifice, dedication and his thoughts were still alive today.

“Even though he is not physically with us, he is among all of us. When the gap between the rich and the poor widens, a situation of conflict arises, and it was precisely at that time when the tyranny of the moneylenders had reached its peak in this state. In such circumstances, the times were not favorable for those who were uneducated,” Mr. Soren said.

He further said, “How essential it is to be educated; our pioneering leaders have always strived to educate children. So, education is extremely necessary for our lives.”

During his visit to the Cheshire Home, Mr. Soren said that it was for the first time in his life that he was celebrating his father’s birth anniversary without him.

He pointed out that Guruji’s struggle, sacrifice, and dedication showed the way to realize the dream of a separate state. Mr. Soren explained that his father was always dedicated to the upliftment of the weak, backward, and tribal communities.

Jharkhand CM added that Guruji’s thoughts and ideals will continue to guide Jharkhand for centuries to come. They also met the children with disabilities living there and interacted with them. He also distributed blankets and essential items among the children.

He assured all possible support and extended his best wishes for the New Year to everyone present there. Wishing the children a bright future, he said that the state government is continuously making meaningful efforts in the field of welfare for persons with disabilities.
