The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) have booked nearly 10,000 cases against motorists for using high beams, during the “Dazzling Light” special drive, in four days.

The special drive, aimed at improving road safety and reducing accidents caused by the glare of the headlights, began on January 7, and the enforcement has only intensified. The BTP have booked 9,782 cases as of January 10. On Saturday night alone, the BTP booked 1,843 cases.

According to division-wise data released by the BTP, the West Division reported the highest number of violations, with 1,025 cases booked on the night of January 10 and 4,994 cases since January 7. This was followed by the South Division with 331 cases on the night of January 10 and 1,858 cases cumulatively.

Similarly, the East Division recorded 329 cases on the night and 1,731 cases in total, while the North Division registered 158 cases and 1,199 cases since the start of the drive.

The traffic police officials said the drive is aimed at creating awareness among motorists about the dangers of using high beams in the city limits. The use of high beams can temporarily blind the road users and can lead to serious accidents.

On social media, the BTP have urged motorists to follow traffic rules and switch to low-beams while driving in the city limits, reiterating their message: “Be a Responsible Driver- Switch to Low Beam.”
