The Safety Management Team of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Saturday completed capping of well, Mori-5, after a major blowout of natural gas at Irusumanda village in Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema District on January 5.

“The Mori-5 well has been capped within record five days, a major achievement in blowout response and operational excellence,” ONGC Rajahmundry Asset authorities said in an official release.

On January 5, a major blowout of natural gas was reported in Mori-5 well during workover activity aimed at increasing the flow of the natural gas. At least 600 people were evacuated. No casualties was reported during the blowout.

The ONGC authorities thanked Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema District officials for their timely response and cooperation in the evacuation drive.

Meanwhile, the ONGC is yet to commence assessment of the environmental impact of the blowout in the surrounding areas of the Mori-5 well.
