PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss on Saturday urged the Tamil Nadu government to immediately hold talks with Rural and Urban Livelihood Mission workers who are protesting across the State demanding wage hikes and job regularisation.

In a post on social media platform X, he criticised the DMK-led government for failing to even invite the protesting workers for discussions, despite their prolonged struggle. He said the workers were being “needlessly made to suffer” while pressing for their legitimate demands.

Pointing out that Rural and Urban Livelihood Mission workers play an important role in implementing government welfare schemes and taking them to people in remote areas, the PMK leader said their repeated demands for salary revision and service regularisation had been ignored, forcing them to launch a sit-in protest.

In a separate X post, he criticised the State government for failing to fill more than 1,100 vacant headmaster posts in government and government-aided middle and high schools across the State.

According to him, over 300 middle schools and more than 800 high schools are currently functioning without headmasters. He noted that these vacancies could be filled through a single government order, as a large number of eligible teachers are available. He claimed that the absence of headmasters is a major reason for the deterioration of government schools.

In response, the School Education Department stated on Saturday that the appointments could not be made as the matter is currently pending before the court.
