Premallatha Vijayakant, general secretary of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), on Friday said no political formation could govern Tamil Nadu without her party’s support.

Addressing the party’s Makkal Urimai Meetpu Maanadu 2.0 at Paasar near Veppur, she stressed that alliance decisions would hinge exclusively on cadre’s approval. Ms. Premallatha said the alliance that the DMDK joined would emerge victorious. “I have decided on the alliance after consulting district secretaries. They expressed their views only to me. I have already decided on the alliance partner,” she added. DMDK transcends caste, religion, and language, she added, positioning victory as the outfit’s future.

Speaking at the meeting, DMDK youth wing leader Vijay Prabhakaran asserted that the party’s support would be indispensable for any successful electoral alliance in Tamil Nadu. Both major parties in Tamil Nadu need DMDK’s support and whichever alliance the DMDK joins will be a mega alliance, he said.

The DMDK is not a mere political outfit but a “family” legacy founded by the late Vijayakant, who elevated public service to new heights.

Mr. Prabhakaran, who claimed to have secured votes comparable to Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, said he had no regret over his exclusion from lists of emerging youth leaders. He also advised TVK president Vijay against aligning with the Congress-alliance, which had extended support over the release of his upcoming movie.

“Do not trust the Congress that supports Jana Nayagan,” he told Mr. Vijay. “I know what they did in Virudhunagar during the 2024 Lok Sabha election,” he added.
