Farmers stage protest demanding action against irregularities in housing scheme

The district unit of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha staged a protest at Gursunagi Village Cross in Wadagera taluk of Yadgir district on Thursday and demanded immediate action against the officers of T. Wadagera Gram Panchayat for distributing houses under a housing scheme to ineligible beneficiaries.

The farmers said that despite repeated appeals, memorandums and reminders to the Wadagera Taluk Panchayat, the Tahsildar and the Zilla Panchayat, with detailed records on misappropriation of public money and irregularities in distributing houses under the housing scheme, no action has been taken against the officers so far.

The officers, despite being involved in irregularities, threatened the farmers after they submitted complaints to the higher authorities. The farmers organisations will no longer tolerate such mismanagement by the officers and will launch more agitations in the future if action is not taken against those involved, they said.

The protesters also demanded that action be taken to ensure cleanliness in rural areas, as drainages in many villages remain uncleaned and residents are facing the threat of an epidemic.

Later, the protesters submitted a memorandum to the Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat Lavish Ordia and withdrew their protest when he assured them of taking action.

District president of the organisation Sharanu Mandarwad, Mallikarjun Satyampet, Malkanna Chinti, Prabhakar Reddy, Bhimanna Naik, Mallanna Neelahalli, Fakir Ahmed, Bhimaraya Yelheri, Balaji T. Wadagera and others participated in the protest.
