Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Tamil Nadu end of this month, efforts are afoot to strengthen the AIADMK-BJP-inclusive National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the State. BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran called on AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami in Chennai on Friday (January 9, 2026) morning.

“Talks have been cordial. We discussed the visit of the Prime Minister. We will (further) discuss whether the meeting will be in Chennai or Madurai,” Mr. Nagenthran told reporters after the meeting with Mr. Palaniswami. When asked about the Prime Minister’s visit to the State, he said that the date has not been finalised yet, but it would be at the end of this month.

Replying to a query on how many seats have been finalised (for the parties in the alliance), Mr. Nagenthran said he would share those details later. He did not respond to a question on how many seats the BJP intended to contest in Tamil Nadu for the upcoming Assembly polls.

The meeting at Mr. Palaniswami’s residence in Chennai on Friday followed his meeting with senior BJP leader and Union Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi earlier this week.

Senior AIADMK leader and former Minister K.P. Munusamy was also present at the meeting. BJP functionaries R.N. Jaya Prakash, M. Chakravarthy, K.P. Ramalingam, and K.T. Raghavan were among those who accompanied Mr. Nagentharan.
