Balla Pallavi took charge as the first woman Chairperson of Anantapur market yard on Thursday in the presence of MP G. Lakshminarayana, MLA Daggubati Venkateswara Prasad, Jana Sena Party (JSP) leader and Anantapur-Hindupur Urban Development Authority (AHUDA) Chairman T.C. Varun and BJP leaders.

Speaking on the occasion, MP Lakshminarayana said that the market yard, spread over 19 acres, stood second in the sale of sweet lime among all the market yards in the State. He asked the newly-elected committee members to not just focus on increasing the revenues of the market yard, but also provide more facilities to the farmers. He said the State government was encouraging farmers to cultivate all horticulture crops.

Ms. Pallavi said TDP was giving priority to women empowerment and recalled how party founder N.T. Rama Rao had appointed women as conductors in RTC buses and offered equal share to women in property. Similarly, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu brought a revolution by starting DWCRA groups and also nominated a woman as the Speaker of State Assembly for the first time.

MLA Venkateswara Prasad alleged that the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government had derailed the growth of market yards and Mr. Chandrababu Naidu was bringing them back to path of development in the past 18 months.

Meanwhile, a large number of JSP cadres took out a massive rally on bikes and autorickshaws in the city and attended the swearing-in event of Ms. Pallavi. AHUDA Chairman Varun expressed hope that the newly-appointed committee would develop the market yard and work towards the welfare of farmers. “The new committee should work for realising the aspirations of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan,” he said.
