A one-day State-level consultative meeting for youth, leaders, and women representatives of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) and forest-based indigenous communities was held at the Karnataka State Tribal Research Institute here on January 5.

Chairing the meeting, Minister for Public Works Satish Jarkiholi held discussions with tribal community leaders and officials. He received representations from tribal youths and reviewed the issues raised during the interaction.

Community leaders highlighted key problems faced in tribal habitations, including education, housing, employment, drinking water, electricity, and road connectivity, and sought the Minister’s intervention.

Directing officials to examine the representations in accordance with rules, the Minister asked them to take necessary steps to address the issues. He also stressed the need to expand skill-based training programmes for tribal communities and to organise awareness programmes on nutritious food and healthy dietary practices.

Officials from various departments, including Yogesh T., director of the Karnataka State Tribal Research Institute and the Department of Social Welfare (Scheduled Tribes), along with youth from tribal and indigenous communities, were present.
