CM announced cash gift for Pongal in fear of defeat: Anbumani

PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss on Sunday said Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s announcement of a Pongal gift of ₹3,000 for every family holding rice ration cards in Tamil Nadu showed that the DMK was scared of losing the upcoming Assembly election.

In a statement, he said the government had not distributed a “single paisa” as gift last Pongal. The DMK government was making such announcements “fearing defeat”, but the people were not going back on their decision, he said.

On Saturday, Dr. Anbumani dubbed the Tamil Nadu Assured Pension Scheme “fraudulent”, as it did not specify the date of implementation.

“It has been stated that the government must deposit ₹13,000 crore into the pension fund to implement this scheme. However, the DMK government — which is likely to become defunct within the next 45 days — has not provided any explanation as to when or how this amount would be deposited. Some leaders of government employees’ organisations have privately told me that once such a government order is issued, the impact on government employees will be severe,” he said.

The government employees, he said, would certainly defeat the DMK in the election.
