Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma visited the frontline Indian Navy platforms, including INS Himgiri, an indigenously-built advanced stealth frigate of the Eastern Fleet, and a Kalvari Class submarine in Visakhapatnam on Sunday (January 4).

During his interaction with naval personnel onboard the warships, the Governor was briefed on the vessels’ multi-mission roles, advanced stealth features and integrated combat systems. Officials explained how these platforms enable effective maritime surveillance and ensure operational readiness across the full spectrum of modern naval warfare.

The Governor was also informed of the extensive use of indigenous technologies in the Indian Navy’s newest platforms. Naval officials highlighted that the increasing reliance on domestically designed and manufactured systems reflected India’s expanding capability in defence production and aligned with the national focus on self-reliance under the Aatmanirbharta initiative.

The Governor expressed his appreciation for the role played by the Eastern Naval Command and the Eastern Fleet in safeguarding India’s maritime interests. He lauded their commitment to maintaining continuous maritime surveillance and protecting the nation’s strategic interests in the Indo-Pacific region, said a release.
