Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed the officials to prioritise major temples on the Godavari banks for the construction of permanent ghats in view of the ensuing Godavari Pushkarams.

“Officials should give priority to temple-centric ghats,” the Chief Minister said. He wanted the officials to undertake field visits of temples along Godavari river from Basar to Bhadrachalam and select the temples suited for the purpose.

He wanted officials to visit temples like Basar, Kaleshwaram, Dharmapuri, Bhadrachalam and others and prepare a list of the temples that needed improvements. In the process, priority should be given to temples located closer to the State and National Highways. In addition to taking up expansion of the existing ghats, planning for development works should encompass improvement of roads and other amenities on a permanent basis.

Steps should be taken to ensure that two lakh people could take their holy dip at the ghats at a time during the Pushkarams. Officials should take up development of ghats and other amenities at the temples keeping in view the local needs. Tourism, Irrigation and Endowments departments should work in close coordination for a hassle free and successful conduct of the pushkarams, he added.
