Chittoor district police conducted a massive awareness programme on the importance of traffic rules at the APSRTC Depot in Chittoor on Saturday (January 03, 2026).

Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi, Deputy SP (Chittoor) T. Sainath, and Circle-Inspector (Chittoor Urban) Maheshwara Mopuri highlighted safe driving practices among bus drivers and other motorists.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sainath urged drivers to value human life and strictly adhere to safety norms, including the mandatory use of helmets and seat belts. He cautioned that mobile phone usage while driving remains one of the leading causes for road accidents and warned that even a moment of negligence could result in irreversible consequences.

CI Maheswara said that drunken driving is a serious offence that endangers not only the driver but also other road users. Drivers were advised not to overspeed and bus drivers were advised to avoid stopping buses at non-designated locations, as such practices increase the risk of accidents. “Behind every driver’s negligence lies the future of several families,” he said.

He said that traffic rules are meant not for fear of penalties but for ensuring safe living. He emphasised the use of quality helmets worn properly and warned of strict action against drunk driving and violations by heavy vehicle drivers.

Senior officials from the APSRTC from the Chittoor region took part in the event.
