The Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has issued interim recommendations to the State government and the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) following the eviction of over 160 houses in Kogilu Layout, Yelahanka.

The commission underscored that while development works carried out in the public interest are necessary, it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that such actions do not violate constitutional rights, particularly the right to life, the right to live with dignity, and the right to rehabilitation and compensation.

According to the commission, multiple cases were registered on December 21, 2025, in connection with the eviction drive. Acting on the directions of the commission, officials visited the site on December 29, 2025, to inspect the conditions on the ground and conducted hearings with the affected families.

The commission has recommended that immediate alternative housing arrangements be made for all families impacted by the eviction so that no household is rendered homeless. As an interim measure, it suggested that government land available near the affected area be used to set up temporary shelters, including tents, and that hot food be provided to the displaced families.

The commission has called for the provision of clean drinking water at the site and the establishment of a mobile health centre. It has recommended the creation of temporary accommodation along with toilet facilities to protect those rendered homeless from the cold. The interim recommendations have been directed to be sent to the Chief Secretary to the Government and the Chief Commissioner of the GBA.
