Dense fog disrupted flight operations at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) on Friday (January 2, 2025), leading to 14 flight diversions, 19 cancellations and nine delays during the early morning hours.

Data from FlightRadar24 showed that the diversions occurred between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. as low visibility affected landing conditions. A number of international flights were among those diverted. These included IndiGo services from Muscat, Riyadh, Dammam, Kuwait City and Jeddah, which were redirected to either Bengaluru or Chennai. Other affected international flights included Oman Air’s Muscat service, Emirates’ Dubai flight and a Flynas flight from Riyadh, all of which were diverted to Bengaluru.

“All the flights that were diverted due to fog later returned to Hyderabad once weather conditions improved,” Hyderabad airport authorities said.

The fog-related disruptions had a cascading effect on the day’s flight schedule. According to information shared by Hyderabad airport authorities, 19 IndiGo flights were cancelled, comprising 10 arrivals and 9 departures. The cancellations involved services to and from major cities such as Bengaluru, Mumbai, Varanasi, Kolkata, Visakhapatnam, Coimbatore, Patna, Guwahati and Kochi.

In addition to cancellations, nine flights were delayed, all of them departing from Hyderabad. These flights were scheduled to operate to destinations including Lucknow, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Goa, Visakhapatnam and Chennai.
