Attack on minorities shows Sangh Parivar’s duplicity: Binoy Viswam

The recent attacks on Christian priests in Nagpur in Maharashtra and in Jammu clearly show that though forced to function under a secular and democratic Constitution, the Sangh Parivar has not gone back on its stance, Communist Party of India State secretary Binoy Viswam has said.

The Sangh Parivar’s Christian outreach that was clearly evident last Christmas had disappeared this time, with people observing the Christian faith coming under violent attack from the Sangh Parivar, Mr. Viswam said in a statement here on Wednesday.

This two-faced strategy of extremist Hindutva forces is a political strategy that has been used by fascists the world over. The Sangh Parivar’s fundamental ideology sees the Muslims, Christians, and Communists as the country’s enemies, Mr. Viswam said.

The latest attacks were a continuation of the violence seen in Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Madhya Pradesh in the past few months. These attacks were taking place with the overt and covert support of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-Bharatiya Janata Party government at the Centre. Religious leaders who went to build a rapport with the Sangh Parivar would hopefully learn a lesson from these experiences, Mr. Viswam said.
