Anantapur district registered a significant 22.5 per cent decrease in crimes in 2025 compared to the previous year. While 8,841 crimes were registered in 2024, the numbers came down to 6,851 this year.
Addressing the media here on Wednesday, Superintendent of Police (SP) P. Jagadeesh attributed the decrease in crime to effective policing and priority to public safety. The SP said 530 cases were registered, and 50 per cent (₹3,63,55,170) of lost property was recovered in 2024, while in 2025, of total 527 cases, 55% (₹5,15,34,098) of lost property was recovered. “This was possible only due to the increased use of technology,” he said.
Similarly, there was a decrease in chain snatchings and murder for gain cases. Mr. Jagadeesh said the number of murder cases decreased from 57 in 2024 to 42 in 2025. “The main reasons for these murders were petty quarrels, jealousy, and family and property-related conflicts,” he said. Similarly, attempt to murder cases decreased from 66 in last year to 59 in 2025. “Kidnapping cases increased slightly from 28 to 31, while overall, bodily offences decreased by 7 per cent,” he said.
The SP said special focus was laid on curbing crimes against women and it registered a decrease in 2025. “While 733 cases were reported last year, this year the number was 644. Murder of women decreased by 56 per cent, from 18 last year to eight this year,” he said.
Mr. Jagadeesh said there was also a decrease in POCSO cases from 83 in 2024 to 71 in 2025. “Awareness programmes were conducted in educational institutions and villages in collaboration with local police on the uses of the Shakti App, women’s protection laws, child marriages, and other issues,” he said.
Meanwhile, 836 missing persons’ cases were registered in 2025, and police solved 613 cases, while 223 cases are yet to be traced, the SP said.
The district also reported a dip in fatal and non-fatal road accidents by 9 per cent — from 544 in 2024 to 496 in 2025. “While 343 people died in accidents last year, 291 fatalities were recorded this year. The number of injured also decreased by 15 per cent, from 652 to 555. The reduction in road accidents has been a result of measures such as creating public awareness on road accidents and their consequences, imposing fines for violations, focusing on curbing drunk driving, and others,” he said.
