The Kudumbashree Mission on Tuesday organised a ‘Children’s Parliament’ at the Old Legislative Assembly building to create awareness about parliamentary procedures, governance, and constitutional principles.
Student representatives from the 14 districts assumed the roles of the Prime Minister, Speaker, Ministers, and other parliamentary members. During the session, an adjournment motion was moved concerning issues related to cybercrime, highlighting how ordinary people fell victim to financial fraud and how the spread of fraudulent videos drove ordinary people into extreme distress.
A condolence motion was adopted to pay tributes to the former Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan and actor-screenwriter Sreenivasan.
Issues such as inadequate medical facilities and sanitation, upliftment of students from coastal and Adivasi communities, student dropout rates, and gender discrimination in the employment sector were discussed.
Sithara Parveen from Malappuram said she was elated to be part of the State-level Children’s Parliament. She said she personally preferred the district-level Parliament, as it provided two full days of interaction and self-development, while opportunities were limited at the State level.
Following the session, the participants were provided an opportunity to visit the Legislative Assembly.
