The Pension Committee constituted by the Tamil Nadu government to study the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), and the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS), and to recommend a suitable option for the State, submitted its final report to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin at the Secretariat in Chennai on Tuesday (December 30, 2025).

The report has been submitted ahead of a strike planned from January 6, 2026, by the JACTTO-GEO, an umbrella organisation of State government employees and teachers, demanding the restoration of the OPS.

The committee was constituted in February this year to examine various pension schemes for government employees. It was headed by senior IAS officer Gagandeep Singh Bedi. Former Director of the Madras School of Economics K.R. Shanmugam was the other member of the committee, and IAS officer Pratik Tayal served as its Member Secretary.

The committee held several rounds of discussions with associations of State government employees, other stakeholders, and financial institutions. On October 1, it submitted its interim report to the State government.

Minister for Finance Thangam Thennarasu, Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, and Finance Secretary T. Udhayachandran were among those present when the committee submitted the report to the Chief Minister.
